Comforting Words
1 Thessalonians 4:18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words. Christians are not exempted from the trials and tribulations of this world. Sin has troubled every activity and every work in this life. It has messed up relationships and every social interaction. Sin has its final consequence in death. The Thessalonian Christians were deeply troubled by the demise of their loved ones, not knowing if they would see them again. God has words of comfort in every situation, what a blessed thought! God says, When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire,…

God’s Faithfulness in Our Affliction
Psalms 119:75 I know, O LORD, that thy judgements are right, and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me. Amazing truth! Our God is ever faithful! Always faithful in the trials of life that face us, our Saviour is ever present with a comforting hand. However, even when we go astray and we face the chastening hand of the Lord, God disciplines us consistently in faithfulness. A proud-hearted believer may resist the trials and reject our personal failure, yet the Lord wants us to know that He is still faithful even when we fail, and His faithfulness involves afflicting us. God sends affliction to drive us back to Himself: It…

Are we Aware of the Coming of the Lord Jesus?
1 Thessalonians 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. The Thessalonians were well-aware that the time of the Lord’s advent to earth was secret and sudden, as a thief coming without warning. However, the Thessalonian church was not in the dark about this occasion that may happen any time. They were very aware of the suddenness of the coming of Christ. Paul wrote to admonish them on three counts, lessons which will do modern believers good if they take heed. We are not in the dark about this coming But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that…

Resting in Trials
2 Thessalonians 1:7 to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven The book of 2 Thessalonians records for us the intense persecution and troubles the saints were going through. It is also Paul’s encouragement to the believers as they go through the hard times. The believers had to endure beatings and physical harm for the name of Christ: something that we will not need to go through, at least in the near future. Yet, the source of trouble is the same: satanic and worldly opposition to the truths of GOD and the gospel. All believers are called to trouble for the…

The Need for the Work of God
John 9:4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. The second coming of the Lord Jesus to earth is imminent, and therefore the work of the Lord is all the more urgent. Yet, in these last days, there are less workers for the Lord, less urgency and more apathy to the ministry that the Lord has called to. We need, in this 21st century, to hear the words of the Lord Jesus: I MUST WORK THE WORKS OF HIM… What do we learn from these eternal words of Lord Jesus about doing GOD’s work? We…

Blessings of the Cross
Image courtesy Ian Britton on Flickr Matthew 27:32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross. The cross was a symbol of sin, and death: a terrible sign of cruelty and rejection. Our Lord Jesus carried the cross, but He was too weak to continue. His physical strength was gone as he underwent a sleepless night of interrogation, merciless beatings, without nourishment and help. As He walked down the Via Dolorosa (the Way of Suffering), He fell beneath the load of the cross. A man by the name of Simon, was compelled to (forced to) bear Christ’s…
