The Unfeigned Faith Of A Godly Mother

When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. – 2 Timothy 1:5

God is looking for mothers who love Him. Mothers, who before GOD and man, have a faith that is strong and genuine: a faith that prays, a faith that reads the word and a faith that lives GOD’s word in the life, a faith that is real. Paul commended Timothy’s faith because it was a real faith but the source of faith came not merely from Paul’s preaching, but there was a foundation for that faith. Where was the foundation? Where was the origin of this faith for Timothy?

1. The origin of that faith in Timothy was his grandmother. Although not spoken of at all in the New Testament, Timothy’s grandmother was mentioned by Paul as having faith in God from the beginning. Therein lies the beauty of a faithful life. The faith of the individual, though no longer physically around, can still be the source of courage, and encouragement to believe. Grandmothers: does your faith encourage your grandchildren to believe? Or does it bring rejection?

2. Timothy’s mother had faith in God. Without doubt, mothers have the biggest impact on the life of children as they are always with them, always feeding, caring and nurturing them. Eunice, the mother not only was a careful mother but she was also a mother of a testimony among the people. …behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed… Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium. Acts 16:1-2. Mothers, not only your instruction must be right but ensure that you have a testimony that your children can turn to. Your words might be kind, but it is your works that will help people to see GOD, and glorify Him. (Matthew 5:16)

3. Because of the evident faith of Lois and Eunice, Timothy’s faith was nurtured and bore fruit. …the unfeigned faith that is in thee… 2 Timothy 1:5. Paul’s description of Timothy’s faith was that it was unfeigned: unpretentious, real, not fake. This faith brought genuine repentance and revival. This faith brought fruit because the word of God was planted into a tender, good and obedient heart. This faith was energized by the Holy Spirit and therefore, it is true. Mothers, do you want to see real fruit in your children’s life? Firstly, your children must see fruit in yours. How do we bear fruit? The Bible tells us clearly, that unless we abide in Christ and let His word abide in us, we cannot bear fruit.

Mothers, is the Lord speaking to us about fruit bearing? Are we faithful in every aspect of our lives? In keeping the house, in nurturing obedient children, in being faithful to the local church and her ministries, in our sincere and quiet devotion to GOD and in loving Him? When our children, see our unfeigned faith, it is a promise that they will grow to love Jesus as well, for it is written: train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it Proverbs 22:6. No doubt this verse has revelance to mothers. May the Lord bless each mother today to walk with GOD. Blessed Mothers’ Day!
