Our Stability in Christ

Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,

Romans 16:25

Paul, in closing the Epistle of the Romans, exalts the Lord Jesus Christ, and writes confidently of the assurance the believers have in Christ Jesus. It is a great encouraging truth for all believers that we need to give thanks and praise to the Lord God of Heaven and our Saviour in all our lives for His gracious workings and plans in our lives. Paul exhorts and teaches the stability of believers and the eternal assurance that all God’s children have. He tells us that this stability is found in:

The Person Of Christ. God is all-powerful and whatever He does is forever. That is His nature. There is nothing too hard for Him. There is nothing God cannot do. Our salvation was initiated in the mind of God, and executed in the person of Christ, and now applied to our hearts through the working of the Holy Spirit. There is the personal working of a personal God in the person of Christ for our salvation.

The Power Of Christ. We are secured in Christ not only in the person of Christ. If an individual strives against us, our high reputation and rank may be able to temporarily hold them off, but if they strive using other means we may be overcome by our enemies. Yet, this is never possible with Christ! For not only is He strong in word, but He is also strong in attributes and can remove high mountains, open seas, and even hold the sun for a day. The power that calmed the storm, raised the dead and fed the 5000 is the same power that raised Christ up from the dead, defeated Satan, sin and death. If someone died but was then able to come out of death, then a power beyond human comprehension – a divine power – is shown to be the only power that is able to change the heart, the life and the mind. We are sustained by the divine power of Christ, and the Bible tells us that we will never lose our salvation, because no one can pluck us out of His hand.

The Word of Christ. Paul was not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ because it is the power of God unto salvation, to everyone who believes. The power of God in His word is able to sustain us because it is the very word of God. This same Word was used to create this universe. When God said, “Let there be light,” there was light instantly. The Word of Christ spoken on the Sea of Galilee, “Peace be still,” caused the storms to stop.

Praise the Lord, we have the Person of Christ, for He says “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee”. We have the power of Christ because “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” and we have the word of Christ “My words shall never pass away” Believer, there is nothing that will ever shake you from your firm foundation in Christ. Praise and thank Him today, then go and tell this world of the love of Christ that will cleanse from all sin and provide an eternally secured future for all. We owe it to Christ to do so!
