Our History

“And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.”

Mark 16:20

The disciples in the New Testament were obedient to the call of GOD to reach the world for the Lord Jesus and thus they went everywhere, preached, and were assured that GOD was with them in their endeavour to save the souls of men.

The impression of Ambassador Baptist Mission (ABM) was given to the mind and heart of Evangelist Johnny Tan in April 2003. After much prayer, the first draft of the idea was sent to the Senior Pastor of Maranatha Baptist Church. The Lord impressed greatly for the work to be started and by June 2003 the plan, training, and timeframe for beginning the church- planting work was drawn.

The Lord saw fit to set apart one family and four helpers to the task. Having undergone 27 hours of training (Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons for 5 weeks), the first service was set on the 15th September 2003. The topics covered during the training classes were: the Master’s plan of evangelism, fasting, and prayer; for it is true that no spiritual work can be done unless men are willing to be on their knees.

The work started with a mapping out of the estates of Woodlands, specifically targetting every household. In Woodlands alone, there are close to 300,000 people. Every household had to be reached with the gospel!

The workers began their tracting, going house to house and members were bringing new people. Souls were saved and we thank the Lord for them. As door-to-door visitations continued, we also concurrently planned the first estate-wide evangelistic service. Involving the English and the Children’s work, two messages were preached entitled “The Passion of the Christ: Unabridged” and the “The Way to Heaven”. The Lord saw fit to bring at least 20 new visitors to the meetings.

The Lord impressed ABM to have a prayer retreat in which there was prayer in the morning and evening. The Lord used those times for ministering and challenging our lives to be focused on Him. Souls were added to the kingdom of GOD because of those prayer meetings.

To date, we have covered – out of 750 blocks in Woodlands – close to 450 blocks. Assuming there are 100 families in one block, we have – through the flooding and tracting – only reached 45,000 families, statistically speaking. There is still much to be done in reaching them personally. However, we are thankful that the gospel has reached into the families and we are praying that the Lord will speak to them.

We are continuing in our work for the Lord and will not rest until the Lord comes. There are many souls to be reached and our burden is that every one be ”RECONCILED to GOD”  2 Cor 5:20. The Lord has seen fit to initiate this work and we are confident that He will continue it till the day of Christ for He has promised:

“I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”

Matthew 16:18

We are confident of this promise and also that He will be with us until the end.

This is but a brief history of Ambassador Baptist Mission. The rest is about to be written, with the Lord giving the script.
